Lakota Nation vs. United States

Lakota Nation vs. United States

Lakota Nation vs. United States premieres at Tribeca Film Festival. Written and narrated by acclaimed Oglala poet Layli LongSoldier, co-directed by Jesse Short Bull and Laura Tomaselli, with original soundtrack by Raven Chacon, this powerful new documentary is a searing testament to the strength of the Oyate and a visually stunning rejoinder to the distorted image of a people long-shaped by Hollywood.

Mexico’s migrant checks on buses and highways ruled racist and illegal

Mexican immigration agents can no longer conduct stop and search operations on buses and highways after the country’s supreme court ruled that such checks are racist, discriminatory and therefore unconstitutional. The landmark ruling, handed down in Mexico City on Wednesday, found in favour of three young Indigenous Mexicans who were detained and abused by immigration (INM) officials in 2015 during a US-backed crackdown.

The Julia Keefe Indigenous Big Band world premiere

To ‘honor the shoulders we stand on’ – Big band premieres with nod to history of Native jazz musicians

A scheme to entertain a four-year-old youngster in Spokane by playing a jazz album nearly three decades ago produced a cascade of aftereffects that culminated on stage in Olympia, Washington, this month with crescendos of horns and multiple standing ovations.

A Native American faces teargas, baton charges and rubber bullets – Camille Seaman’s best photograph

n the United States, there have been hundreds of treaties made with Native peoples and not one – not a single one – has ever been upheld. Reservations were created, and it was said: “This land will be yours for time immemorial”, but then it always shrinks and shrinks.

Hello There
Welcome to the only European radio show (AFAIK) to promote the indigenous made music of North America/Turtle Island, which consists now of 23 national states, and Greenland. Formally called the Turtle Island Radio Show. I'm a one-man operation and I do this because I really love the music but also to raise awareness of the environmental and social issues faced by these people. At present the show goes out weekly on Resonance FM in London UK. Three stations in Austria, Radio Freequenns,  Radio Agora, and Radio Proton, and Radio Onde Furlane in Italy. The show is given freely to non-commercial stations or those that are part of the European Free Radio network. It is also Podcast by Pantheon Podcasts every Friday. I am a multidisciplinary artist who loves music. More about me :) If you like what I'm doing a please consider giving a small donation to help me continue.  Buy Me a Coffee.
